Rochester, NY Energy Companies Offering Wind Power

by Michelle on March 13, 2011

Customers of a certain couple of energy companies located in Rochester, New York are having some of their energy supplied by wind power.

Both Rochester Gas and Electric and New York State Electric and Gas have reported using energy produced from wind in 2010 and will likely continue to do so in the future.

Although the wind power is produced by other companies these companies have the opportunity to purchase the power generated from the wind and then selling it to their own customers.

Rochester Gas and Electric and New York Electric and Gas provide energy to a large number of customers throughout the Rochester region.

If energy consumers in the area want to compare the energy rates of these two companies and any others that may provide service to the area they can call Electric Rates and do a rate comparison.

  • The wind power provided by Rochester Gas and Electric and New York Electric and Gas reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 63 million pounds last year.
  • The reduction of CO2 emissions equals the amount that would be produced by 5500 motor vehicles on the road.
  • Ninety percent of the energy sold by the two companies was produced in the state of New York.
  • The total amount of renewable energy purchased by the two companies combined was 79 million kWh.

Many states are trying to increase the amount of renewable energy their electric companies produce and some even have specific goals in place.

This is all part of an energy initiative to try to reduce pollution and at the same time produce energy that is generated from more renewable sources rather than those that are not renewable such as oil and gas.

This also gives customers the option to choose whether or not they want to play a part in helping the environment.

Energy consumers who wish to compare the rates of these two Rochester companies should contact Electric Rates at 1-800-971-4020.

Rates can vary greatly so it is important to compare and Electric Rates can help you do that and even answer questions about the different types of rate plans available.
