Green Energy for Liberals and Conservatives

by Luke Johnson on November 27, 2013

big fanThe recent troubles with got me thinking about a conservative friend of mine who went into politics. He worked for some political consulting firm which assigned him to work on Obamacare. This was few years ago and my friend has since moved on to other things with the firm; however, a conservative working on a liberal project made me ask the question, what is the difference between liberals and conservatives? The answer is nothing.

Nothing might be hyperbole but then is it really? What are the two sides of green energy? There is the save the planet side or the become energy independent side. Depending on your mode of thinking one or the other should bring you to support green energy. So who, or what, is behind the push for green energy?

I have always been told if you want to see what is really going on, cut through what politicians are saying, follow the money. How does the government increase GDP? Not the nominal GDP but the actual GDP. Create jobs and products. So how does the government give the appearance of voter’s free will and get us to buy green products?

What is the only way to guarantee the success of a government’s endeavor? Make sure both sides support what you are doing. How simple is it to support green energy when it can be sold to both sides. I’m all for cheaper gas prices and lower electricity bills. I’m even for becoming energy independent. I just have one thing to point out about the differences between the sides. Conservatives want to save themselves from the rest of the world and liberals want to save the world from the rest of us.

Global Warming or Climate Change

Most people would agree that the world has been heating up for the past 20 to 30 years. The reason why the world has been doing this is where the differences come in. Most liberals believe Climate Change is caused by man where most conservatives believe it is a natural cycle the world has been going through since the beginning of time.

The past ten years the earth has been going through a small cooling period. Some believe this is just the downward trend showing the cycle has switched back to cooling. Occam’s razor would suggest this is true. But what would he know? It’s not like he believed the simplest solution would actually be the right one.

It is much simpler to believe that co2 admissions are causing the earth to heat up and us cutting back has caused it to cool down. What, “man” does has a direct affect on the world and can change the natural flow of things.

Before I say this next thing please understand when you find a source be sure to check its bias. Calculations and science don’t always equal truth. This is why it is just as important to understand a source’s bias as it is its calculations.

The amount of co2 released from a volcano eruption is incalculable. All scientists agree volcanos do admit CO2 along with other gases. I’m even admitting CO2 right now as I type this sentence. Here is a very in-depth post about CO2 and volcanoes. Is man-made CO2 admission really a problem?

Back to the money trail, do you think the government really cares about you and your needs? When was the last time you went to the DMV? Everything the government does is about money. Next time you buy an energy saving light bulb remember you are “saving the planet” and becoming more energy independent.

I want to leave you with this great image and quote I found on the Heartland Institute’s Facebook page (I know a very bias source).

“The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.” – Alexis de Tocqueville
